Patron of Laborers
Patron of the parish of Medjugorje.
For James there was no indication that this was the day that his life would
change. The dawn for him was not the bright beginning of a new day, but the end
of long fruitless night of fishing. As James sat mending his nets in the boat
with his brother John and his father Zebedee, he must have watched in wonder as
his partner Simon brought in nets loaded with fish he had caught at the command
of Jesus. Was he shocked when he saw Simon and his brother Andrew walk away
from this incredible catch at a word from this same Jesus?
As he watched Jesus walk toward him followed by Simon and Andrew, did he
feel curiosity, fear, hope, envy? Jesus didn't pass him by but, stopping by
their boat, called James and his brother John to do just what Simon and Andrew
had done. Without argument or discussion, James and John left their boat and
even their father behind, and followed Jesus.

Dear children; today I call you to a difficult and painful step for your unity with my Son. I call you to complete admission and confession of sins, to purification. An impure heart cannot be in my Son and with my Son. An impure heart cannot give the fruit of love and unity. An impure heart cannot do correct and just things; it is not an example of the beauty of God’s love to those who surround it and to those who have not come to know that love. You, my children, are gathering around me full of enthusiasm, desires and expectations, and I implore the Good Father to, through the Holy Spirit, put my Son – faith, into your purified hearts. My children, obey me, set out with me.
As Our Lady was leaving, to her left she showed darkness and to her right a Cross in golden light. |

The visionary Ivanka Ivankovic-Elez had her regular annual apparition on June 25th 2011.
At Her last daily apparition on May 7, 1985, Our Lady confided to Ivanka the 10th secret and told her that she would have an apparition once a year on the anniversary of the apparitions. It was that way also this year.
The apparition, which lasted 8 minutes, took place at Ivanka’s family home. Only Ivanka’s family was present at the apparition. After the apparition, Ivanka said: “Our Lady spoke to me about the first secret and, at the end, said: ‘Dear children, receive my motherly blessing.’”

Early in 1982 when I first heard about the reported apparitions in Medjugorje, I would never have believed that my life would be so impacted by the events that have changed to believing world. In October, 1983, I made my first pilgrimage to the “village between the mountains” where I experienced the deep peace that I continue to find when I am in Medjugorje.
Many things have changed, and changed drastically and dramatically. From dirt roads and no running water to paved streets and pension in-room bathrooms; from no restaurants and very little electricity to eating places on every corner and streaming live television; from only the parish gift shop to a myriad of shops, things have definitely changed in these thirty years. People ask me if all the shops and restaurants bother me. My response is always the same. They answer a need for the many pilgrims and that is good.
I find the mountains more difficult to climb these days, not only because I am older but because the thousands and thousands of pilgrims who have climbed the mountains have worn away the surface and the rocks protrude higher than ever before. A little bit of rain and a wind carry away the loose soil and up come the rocks. This only makes the climb more grace-filled as we stop along the way to pray the mysteries of the Rosary–which weren’t there in 1983–or the Stations of the Cross which were numbers painted on a rock with two branches of a tree to make a cross at each place.
The only thing that hasn’t changed in these thirty years is the message of peace through prayer, repentance and reconciliation, penance and fasting and, most important, faith. The core word from Our Lady echos the words of Our Lord, “Repent, the Kingdom of God is at hand” and the charge He gave the disciples to go out and proclaim that the kingdom of God is at hand. The Scriptural basis of Our Lady’s messages has always impressed me and convinced me of their authenticity, even though we await the final decision of Church authorities. Our Lady’s desire that all her children be with her in eternity impels her to continue visiting the visionaries and enhancing the core message with her monthly message. We should be a grateful people to be alive during these days of Our Lady’s visitation. Some people say that “there is nothing new in her messages.” While that is true, that, for me, continues to convince me of Our Lady’s presence. There is nothing new in the Gospel message.
Our Lady’s presence has been and is a true blessing to me and to the world. I shall be ever grateful to the priest who first told me about her reported apparitions and who gave me my first rosary blessed by Our Lady. I still have that rosary and I cherish it among my “special” rosaries.
To Our lady, Queen of Peace, we pray for the Church and for our world which is in great need of true and lasting peace. Prayer is the secret, according to Our Lady. May we all follow her call and be blessed abundantly by doing so.

Holy Mass was celebrated by the prev. pastor of Medjugorje and the current provincial of the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina Fr. Ivan Sesar, there were over 200 priests concelebrating. If I had to guess the number of people present for mass, I would say over 30000, it was quite impressive.
Some images from the mass this evening, there was a greeting message performance done by the FRAMA (Franciscan Youth of Medjugorje), little girls came on to the outside altar with the banners greeting Our Lady with the words PENANCE, PRAYER and CONVERSION and the central banner reads "I AM THE QUEEN OF PEACE - MEDUGORJE - 30 YEARS". I had a privilege and to attend an extraordinary concert at Mothers Village two nights ago, it is a boys choir from Spain called Escolania de la Santa Cruz - Valle de Los Caidos. They performed gregorian chants and some other classics for an hour or so. St. Joseph's building was filled to the last spot. Fr. Svetozar made an impressive opening by touching the history of the Spanish people and linking it to the history of the Croatians living in this area.
